Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the estimate?

It is a high level screening estimate. Scope 1 and 2 are calculated from your energy bills using internationally recognised, region-specific emission factors, and give a reliable picture of your operational emissions. Scope 3 is an indicative estimate based on typical ratios for your sector. It is not a substitute for a full carbon footprint assessment to GHG Protocol or ISO 14064 standards.

What are Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions?

Scope 1 covers fuels your business burns directly, such as building and factory fuel and company vehicles. Scope 2 covers the electricity you purchase. Scope 3 covers indirect emissions such as your supply chain, commuting and waste. The calculator estimates Scope 3 from typical sector ratios; a full assessment measures it directly.
