CASE STUDY 01

Aircraft Engine Repair Facility

A specialist aircraft engine component repair operation engaged Climeaction to build a practical decarbonization pathway through a combined FAST assessment and ISO 50001 energy management approach.

The Challenge

High dependency on LPG and grid electricity across a precision repair environment, with the majority of the facility’s footprint sitting in Scope 3, purchased goods, packaging and air freight.

Site metering existed but data quality and system upkeep had slipped, and there was no validated emissions baseline to plan capital investment against.

The parent group held ambitious science-based targets, but the route from a corporate commitment to concrete decisions on a single site was unclear.

The Solution

Year 1: establish a systematic carbon management framework — develop and certify an ISO 50001 energy management system, deploy advanced metering and the EnergyBee platform for data visibility, and validate significant energy users.

Year 2: deliver high-impact capital projects including heat recovery to displace fossil fuels, compressed-air and cooling upgrades, and a roof replacement to enable on-site solar.

Years 3 to 5: roll out on-site and off-site solar PV, supplemented by a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement for full renewable coverage, alongside a structured supplier engagement programme to address the Scope 3 footprint.

CASE STUDY 02

Automotive Manufacturer

A leading automotive OEM partnered with Climeaction to enhance energy efficiency and carbon reduction across its operations through a strategic CAaaS program.

The Challenge

This automotive manufacturer produces turbochargers and supercharger wheels for premium car brands.

The site uses extensive energy in its foundry process. The Significant Thermal Energy Users are Furnaces operating at 2,500 deg F, Dehumidifiers, HVAC Systems and general plant heating.

The site was mature from an Energy Management perspective but was struggling to identify the next key cost and carbon reduction projects.

The Solution

Climeaction undertook our FAST program followed by implementation of CAaaS.

We focused on furnaces first in a staged manner:

Reduce Energy Demands – implemented O2 trim combustion control to modulate combustion air according to demands and maintain process critical setpoints – reduced energy demands by almost 70%.

Capture Waste Heat from Furnaces – Installed an economizer on the most modern furnace to recover heat at 200 deg F to a hot recovery system to supply heat to HVAC, Dehumidifiers, Offices & Canteen – reduced energy demand of other users by 95%.

Some supplemental heat required when production down.Other Utilities Upgrades – Implemented 15 No small low / no cost measures across Process, Compressed Air, Pumps & Motors – resulting in a 7% reduction in overall site energy demands in year 1 and 5% in year 2.

FAQs

Your questions, answered.

  • What does a fossil free pathway involve?
Replacing fossil fuel loads with electrified and recovered heat, sequenced so the site keeps running throughout. For one aerospace client that pathway runs over five years.
  • Do you work with MRO and engine repair facilities?
Yes. Our work in this sector includes aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul operations, aircraft engine repair facilities and automotive manufacturing.
  • How do you approach high specification production environments?
We measure before we propose. Process tolerances, specification and uptime are treated as fixed constraints, and the design works around them rather than through them.
  • How long before we have a plan?
Our FAST program covers Footprint, Audit, Strategy and Target setting as one structured piece of work, typically over 6 to 8 weeks, ending with a baseline, a costed opportunity register and a prioritized roadmap.
